In our eyes, a good Mother’s Day breakfast, afternoon tea or dinner party means full bellies, a colourful table spread
and tea so good your sister won’t stop talking about it.
So, we’ve compiled a guide of essentials to help you secure the title of host with the most.
Setting the scene
A good place to start is choosing a theme. The theme can be inspired by on the time of day you’ll be hosting, the location or maybe a dish you want to cook. Your theme will dictate the music, food, drinks and table setting. Read on for three themes for a Mother’s Day tea party.
Low-key brunch
Think long, lazy mornings. Think warm, comforting tea. Think of a chill playlist humming in the background. Is there any better way to spend a Sunday morning?
Add pops of colour
The best thing about this theme is that it’s not restricted to Mother’s Day, you can re-use the table setting for any occasion. Keep the table looking cohesive by choosing a couple of colours that work well with your existing table wares. It’s all about the little details – for example, blue napkins and blue DIY place cards would complement the throughout the day.
Complete your table setting with the Enchanted teawares. The artful design works as a centrepiece as well as serving tea.
The food & drinks
Go for classic breakfast tea, with a twist – like our Baker’s Breakfast. Serve it alongside a big breakfast with eggs, avo toast and lots of fresh fruits. The sweet, rich notes of the black tea will balance the savoury flavours of the breakfast. Try making a Mont Blanc for a fancy touch!
The playlist
Go for something that will create a relaxed yet upbeat ambiance. One of our favourites is Spotify's The Picnic List.
An intimate dinner party
If you’re hosting Mother’s Day for your nearest and dearest, an intimate afternoon tea is the way to go. Creating a warm, cosy atmosphere is the perfect way to bond, have some laughs and share delicious food too.
Create simply elegant tablescape
Start with something simple, like a crisp white tablecloth then add interest and style with playful, textural serving ware among the classic pieces you already own. Create an intimate mood by lighting a few candles, there’s something about a flittering flame that always creates a warm and welcoming mood. Hammered Glass Teawares is the perfect way to add a little texture to your setting. The design hand detailed. The gold details will give your table an opulent yet elegant feel.
Potluck always pleases
Ask guests to bring a dish to help take the pressure off you cooking the entire feast. A cheese board, bread or salad is
easy for guests to bring from home and makes everyone feel involved.
Serve a chilled tea alongside the meal. Elderflower Peach is a subtle blend with fragrant fruity notes. You’ll find our
simple iced tea recipe here.
Music to set the mood
Choose something to set the mood without distracting, we like Spotify's Dinner with Friends playlist.
For more formal festivities
Do you feel like dressing up for the night? This is how we host a Mother’s Day dinner party with a little luxury, T2 style.
Create an elegant table
Keep things classic but add elevated touches like a tablecloth and fabric napkins. Place cards can add a little formality too. Consider purchasing a bunch of flowers and placing them into small vases along the centre of your table – it’s easy enough to do yourself but feels very special.
Complete the setting with the sparkle of Starlight Teawares. The design is dainty (yet enduring) for hot and iced tea,
with fine silver details that sparkle when caught in the light.
Preparation is essential for food & drinks
Serve a meal you’re confident making to ensure the night goes smoothly. Recipes you can prepare the day or morning before also will allow you to focus on enjoying the night with your guests, and not busy in the kitchen cooking.
When it comes to dessert, this is your chance to do something special. A dish like a Lemon Meringue Tart can be made the day before – and not only does it taste great, but it looks stunning. Pair a cake with our Sleep Tight, its citrusy lemon balm base with floral notes cuts through the sweetness of the dessert, and is the perfect way to end a night of celebrations.
Set a dress code
Consider asking your guests to dress up for the occasion with a cocktail dress code, it is Mother’s Day after all!
